Her theatrical origins stem from a partially-traumatic childhood in musical theatre and a love of illustration. Her favourite pieces to collaborate on are newly-developed works, re-contextualized canonical shows, and movement-based/musically-driven theatre. She has an especial love of shows that embrace non-reality and the absurd. Also, she has an embarrassingly soft spot for Sondheim. Beyata is a graduate of the UofA's Theatre Design program and splits her time between Edmonton and out-of-province contracts (but is trying to stay closer to home so she can spend more time cuddling dogs). She's worked as an assistant designer at the Shaw Festival for the past 3 seasons and has just recently started designing her own shows there. Additionally, she's worked with Mr. Sincennes too many times and is a bit tired of him. She can sort-of juggle for 30-second stints on a good day. Special thanks to all of the lovely designers she's had the privilege to assist - Cory, Gillian Gallow, Michael Gianfrancesco, Judith Bowden, Ming Wong, Rachel Forbes, Christina Poddubiuk, Laura Delchiaro, Camie Koo, Erin Gruber.
